Brown shoes and boots were first issued for the new summer cotton khaki and winter brown wool uniforms worn by soldiers, replacing the formerly worn black leather footwear. Even the enlisted dress blue uniform soldiers wore brown leather shoes and garrison belts and black socks. With the introduction of the "paratrooper" boots issued in 1958, brown footwear had to be dyed black.

This was a soft-cover spiral-bound booklet of eighty (80) pages, therefore have to scan it in three parts as there are dried mildew stamps, pen and pencil marks, etc., nothing in changed in the pictures nor the artwork. It has been restored as it would have appeared just the first time it was acquired. It was also dog-eared as it was used for reference repeatedly throughout it's life!

National Geographic Magazine always had great articles and in 1917 and in 1919 they did a Special Issue for Flags and and again for Army and Navy Insignia. In 1943 they came up with special issues on the Insignia, Medals and Decoration and in 1944 reprinted all of the articles in one and then reprinted a second special issue. One had a tan cover and the other a blue cover if I recall right?

March Military and Aviation Equipment Co., New York, N.Y. published and distributed this sales catalogue in 1941 prior to the entry of the United States Armed Forces entry into World War Two. The prices seem low to us today, but a "1941 Dollar" then bought what US$16.00 (sixteen dollars) buys today! Not so cheap, is it? Service pay for the lowest ranks was US$21 and then US$25 a month and in the 1940s due to inflation lowest pay for a private was US$50 a moth and when I enlisted...

NOTA BENE: This is not an endorsement of a terminology, it reports that women in general were good workers in wartime industries to help defeat fascist enemies. It took almost another twenty years to correct many injustices to some based on color, sad to say! All of the people in the United States of America were needed to win that great war that raged in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Please share this with others.
